What we do
Made by hand, here
The clay comes from right next door and the piece is made by a pair of hands. There is not much more to explain: you can see it.
-
The clay, right next door
-
Red and white: the blend makes the colour
-
The clay goes into the mould by the handful
-
The mould is lifted by hand, one at a time
-
Hands smooth what no machine knows how to
-
The edge, cut by knife
-
After that, all that is left is waiting
-
Weeks on the ground, depending on the weather
-
The glaze goes on with a brush
-
And some are painted by hand, one by one
-
No two edges come out the same
-
Here, every day
In short
-
By hand, piece by piece
There is no production line. Every tile goes through the mould, and the mould is lifted by a person.
-
The clay is local
It comes from the quarries around El Perelló. From the yard to the finished piece there is not even a lorry ride.
-
Every firing is different
The kiln decides the shade, and it cannot be ordered from a catalogue. Two pieces of the same model are never identical.
And after that
No two pieces come out the same
That is what happens when something is made by hand: the shade varies, the edge is never quite straight and the brushstroke shows. That is not a flaw in the process — it is the process.
